Plainfield: Cohort 3: Day 1
Plainfield School District Tagged CMSCE, ELL, ESL, Rutgers, Technology, UDL August 4th, 2008Well if you’ve made it as far as this blog then you’ve made it past the first couple of hours of UDL training. Congratulations! You now have the basic understanding that Universal Design for Learning is the framework for something that you’ve been working so hard as an educator to do for your students this year and possibly for many years past as well.
Please read the article, “Burbank Students Use Blog to Learn English”, by Kim Minugh found at http://www.sacbee.com/220/story/846880.html and comment on the digital project that Larry Ferlazzo designed in collaboration with other educators to help his students learn to become more fluent in English.

Using blogs in education is such a great idea. I can’t wait to incorporate them into my lessons.

I am very impressed with the possibility for students to broaden thier outlook. The interaction with a Global community offers much neede exposure for our students.
I would like to incorporate this idea with seventh grade students this year.
Thank you.

The article on using a blog with students affirmed what I observed in my own classroom – the power of technology to engage students. Posting a comment for a wide audience seems less threatening to many young people than speaking up in class.

This is such an authentic activity. At times, our lessons require students to imagine or pretend something. We ask them to invest time and energy on a task that is not real and not tied to any real outcome. This activity is instantly engaging because it involves communication with others.
I like the use of technology and bringing the world into the classroom. If I could talk with him, I would love to learn more about how he safeguards the conversations and protects students.

I am very excited about bringing technology into my science classroom. I am looking forward to broading my horizons through using my new smartboard. I am hoping to share my ideas and lesson via the Plainfield Blog and hopefully will get ideas from others also. It is a great way to stay in touch. Feel free to check out my eboard at eboard.com password is sgleim. There are several websites and lesson for elementary science teachers.

I created a blog last year, but it flopped. I’m looking forward to trying it again. However, I must refer to HW Johnsons delicious account for blogging tips.
Gotta love technology.
