Plainfield: Cohort 2: Day 2 – Choices
Plainfield School District Tagged ELL, ESL, Plainfield, Technology, UDL June 17th, 2008We’ve spent a lot of time working on our Toolkit today. You’ve reviewed a handful of tools that you may or may not want to use in your classroom. Please, before you leave, do one of the following:
1. Leave a comment here discussing which tool was your favorite, why and how specifically you see using it with your class.
2. Visit Ira Socol’s blog and read his post from April 9 called Not Getting to Universal Design. Please leave Ira a comment on his blog.
3. Visit Heather’s del.icio.us links and/or Lisa’s del.icio.us links and choose another tool tagged “UDL”. Leave a comment here letting us know which tool you selected. Be prepared to demonstrate the tool the next time we meet as a group.
We hope the theories behind Universal Design for Learning are all coming together for you and that you are excited to implement the strategies in your classrooms.

I really enjoyed the del.icio.us website. I think this is a tool that I would use to keep me organized.

This website let’s you use cyber manipulatives to learn mathematical concepts. it can be most useful with children who have difficulty with gross motor skills and find it difficult to use small manipulatives.

We are collaborating for our comment since we have shared the computer during today’s session. Our favorite tool was del.icio.us It appears to be a useful tool in organizing the websites to be incorporated into the classroom. Besides saving valuable time, it will allow us to go directly to saved sites without having to remember all of the website names.

I really liked del.icio.us because of its features to save anything usable as a resource for teaching and learning. I came across another website (furlit)that is similar when I was working on my masters at Kean. It allowed me to save in folders in a similar way as del.icio.us. The feature I really like about del.icio.us is that we can share/view and save from other del.icio.us accounts.

LOVED the UDL Toolkit. I will definitely use it my class next year. I know my students will love the bubbl.us Graphic Organizer and the Awesome Highlighter. I was truly impressed with all the possibilities for presenting content. I am looking forward to integrating UDL into my classroom. Thank You

My favorite tool was del.icio.us because you are able to have all your favorite wesites on one place and use them as a resource.

All the tools are cool and awesome. I really liked all of them. They have already made my life easier. I will definitely use skrbl.com in my classroom. Students who have access to the internet can have a choice of completing some of their homework online. I can spent less time writing long websites and view other del.icio.us accounts to find interesting websites for my students to go to and use. Last but not least, I can use bubbl.us as I teach whenever we need to organize ideas into different categories.

I read Ira Sokol’s blog and I find myself in agreement with the general idea of why UDL is not more widely implemented. However, it’s not UDL only. Look at the health care crisis. Isn’t that another manifestation of the same idea?
