Day 3 Plainfield – Applications
Plainfield School District Tagged ELL, ESL, Plainfield, Technology, UDL May 18th, 2008Today we have looked at the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and actual lessons. Examining the students we teach, we explored ways to apply Universal Design for Learning and use digital media to reach every learner in our classrooms.
Before you leave today, think about the resources and links we have discussed and explored.
In your comments:
1. Explain how digital media can support learning in your classroom.
2. Share one piece of digital media you plan to use and provide a link so others can view it.
3. Explain how this digital media will engage learners.

Digital media can support the learning by helping my students using bubbl.us to get a web and write main facts about their animal report. Also, I can have them watch a video about their animal. I can have my low students to use Readthewords.com so hey can have the computer read the article to them and i will use the awesome highlighter in this article. finally, I will use wikistix to do art project with my children(I got this idea from Lisa’s resources)
I’m feeling more confident on how to get ideas and media in the classroom. Now i have to get more practice with the different tools.
Thanks. It was a grat class.

Digital media can support learning in my classroom simply by the fact that students have grown up in the digital age. They are very accustomed to digital media, and would expect it to be done this way anyway. Teachers are learning ways in which to hel pthe students learn in a way that they might enjoy. I would like to start using United Streaming. I hav eheard from other teachers the usefulness of this site, and I want to try it in my class.

I especially enjoyed today’s presentation because it showed me how to address the needs of diverse learners and a practical standards based application for UDL. I see the value of using flexible media in presentation, expression, stategic supports, and engagement. Even if I design my lessons with specific students in mind, ALL students will benefit from using flexible media in classroom instruction. I think that initially the lesson planning process will be lengthy but it will be worthwhile. Mostly though, teachers should be collaborating to create these plans thereby making
the task less daunting.

Great day!. In collaboration with colleages from the workshop I could mark several sites full of useful ideas to be used in reading workshops . I could find out that there are several sites that are good for all kinds of learners. I also learned how to tag those sites into my delicious account so that they are ready for me to find and use, I won’t have to be trusting my memory and wasting valuable time. I will be able to use this in my actual lessons.
I think te pacing was great. I don’t feel overwelmed!

The digital media will help my students as reinforcement for lessons. I will inmediately use the main idea video I learned today as well as others next year.

Digital media in the classroom will help engage more students in my classroom. Since my students all learn differently, reinforcement in teaching is critical.
Using pictures and graphics will strengthen my student’s
knowledge and understanding of so much more than just a paper picture or book.
I would use http://www.candlewick.com/book_files1076317229.btg.1.pdf

Digital media can support learning in my classroom by providing me with various tools to use in targeting the diverse learning styles of my students. The one specific thing I learned today that I plan to use in my class is to create Venn diagrams using pictures. I can import images or upload photos I have taken, and have my students drag them into the Venn diagram, instead of having them write words. There were also various web sites I looked into that could be helpful to use in my class, such as awesome highlighter.

I really liked the concept of visual digital media, such as,using a colorful picture, during a writing TAP. A student would be able to really see and comprehend the deatils in a picture rather then a black/white photo copy.

digital media can be used in my resource room as reciforcement of lessons taught. i plan on using bubbl.us for writing tasks.

Digital media can have so many applications in the classroom, but specially in the bilingual classroom where there are struggling readers alongside students at various stages of adquiring a new language. Digital media takes some of the burden off the student by provident different ways for students to receive information, ie. through video, pictures, listening to text at the same time you are reading, and highlighting important information.
I plan to use yakitome which is a text to speech website. Students who are struggling reading can both read and listen to text. The link is http://www.yakitome.com/

Digital Media will help support the students in my class by providing new forms of learning. On my del.icio.us account: joejoeharris you will find a website that I use to help student with writing stories. The story plant website shows students how to create a story. It is interactive and gives the students choices on what they want to write about.

I see digital media working for students that require reinforcement. Finding different resources for students to interact during a lesson will definitely help students to focus on the topic easiely, they get to practice anytime they want, and eventually developing the skill we have set for them.

Using the Digital Media will be a great resource when Im presenting lessons to my ESL students. Since we know that pictures are an excellent support for second language learners I would definetly use the zoom features with images along with awesome highlighter. This will keep the students who are challenged with staying focussed to remain engaged.

Digital media can be very useful and beneficial for the diverse population we serve in our Special Education classes. Usually the more visual things are presented to my students, the more helpful it is. It makes the students feel like reaching the goal is now attainable.
